100 Years Later: Grand Duke Kirill’s Assumption of the Throne in Exile (1924)

On 13th December, 1924, Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich, the senior surviving male of the Russian Imperial House took up the banner of monarchism and announced that he had succeeded to the rights that were his by virtue of the Russian Fundamental Laws.

This act was not without controversy, but it began the Russian monarchy’s period in exile. For one hundred years, Grand Duke Kirill and his descendants have maintained the traditions and upheld the laws of the Russian Imperial House.
